Breast Cancer Awareness Jewelry
OCTOBER is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Statistics say that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Almost everyone in the world will either experience breast cancer or know someone who does. Breast cancer awareness jewelry is a good way to promote awareness of a disease that affects so many.
At 36, I never thought I would understand breast cancer so intimately, so early in life. This past summer a good friend was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer at 37. She is well on her way to whipping it, but she has a 6 year old daughter who has grown up with my 6 year old son so it hit really close to home.
Breast cancer awareness jewelry is not only pretty and feminine, but it raises awareness for breast cancer. The more aware women are about breast cancer, the more likely they are to be diagnosed early on. While doing these things isn't a guarantee, there are things you can do to protect yourself and raise breast cancer awareness:
- All women should do a Breast Self-Exam on a monthly basis.
- Women younger than 40, should have a breast exam as part of their routine annual physical.
- Women older than 40, should have a mammogram on a annual basis.
- Walk in a Making Strides for Breast Cancer walk. I walked in Harrisburg, PA on October 16, 2010.
- Donate to the American Cancer Society.
